Deals With The Devil

If it isn’t clear from reading my below average writing and above average snark, I don’t think that just because the government might in theory be able to do something effectively means that the government should do it or be allowed to do it. Enter the soon to come Obamacare ruling from the Supreme Court.

It’s possible, that the government mandating that we all buy or otherwise obtain health insurance will make it so that no puppy will ever shed another tear, but in permitting such a mandate we make a deal with the devil. Government is force, nothing more, nothing less, as the quote to the right tries to articulate. Our government has been comparatively great not because of what it can do, but because of what it can’t.

If the government is permitted to mandate we do absolutely anything, and lets face it, that’s what the issue here is, than we are striking a deal with the devil. We might all get healthcare, that still isn’t clear, but we would obtain whatever we get only at the cost of significant (whether or not the government ever chose again to use the power of mandate) freedom. I’m just not willing to strike a Faustian Bargain and neither should you, I can only hope the Supreme Court has the testicular fortitude to do whats right here.

Freedom may not matter if you are dead, but it sure as hell does while you live.
