Fuck Polar Bears And The Endangered Species List They Rode In On
I’ve had it. I really don’t have the time to be writing this post, but I don’t really have any choice, I can’t take it anymore.
I don’t care about what the science says. I don’t care what the politicians say. The only thing that is beyond doubt is that whatever the threat from global warming might or might not be, no one actually cares. If they did, we wouldn’t have policies like this falling out of an administration that claims global warming is going to steal the virginity of the nations women, force polar bears onto food stamps, and cause all the unicorns to have their horns fall out. (How we will get healthcare without unicorn horns, I have no idea, the healthcare law requires them.)
If you are not a link-clicker, let me break it down for you:
- China is subsidizing the production of wind power generation towers at no expense to us.
- To counter this charity, the US government will eliminate that subsidy by imposing a tariff, somewhere between 14% and 26%.
- The US government shows no signs of stopping it’s subsidies of wind generators.
Makes sense right? I don’t think so either. What about solar panels though?
- See previous list.
That’s right, I don’t even really need to get into it, it’s the same sort of situation. Whatever the economic effects of subsidies are, apparently they only have the desired effect if those subsidies are going to pay American workers to make things that Chinese workers can make cheaper. The end result of this stupidity is that American workers will be able to compete with Chinese workers to make solar panels and wind mills, instead of doing something more useful. To make matters worse, even we lowly armchair economists can see that whats happening is the deliberate and effective destruction of wealth. Chinese workers and American workers alike will be poorer for these tariffs.
This is exactly the sort of thing that is not capitalism but will be lumped in with it anyway. What we have here is protectionism, modern day mercantilism, apparently with everyone being none the wiser to the damage that will be done. American jobs are being saved alright, but at the expense of tremendous amounts of capital and labor being tied up doing something inefficient.
To recap, no one cares about global warming or “clean energy”, the only thing that anyone cares about is power, power in the political sense. The power to reward their buddies and harm their enemies, the power to insulate everyone from reality. The last link takes you to an article that contains the following sentence:
The US Commerce Department ruled yesterday in favor of American companies that charged Chinese exporters had illegally “dumped” their solar panels on the US market below fair market price.
Let me translate this from protectionist bullshit into economic reality for you:
The US Commerce Department ruled yesterday in favor of American companies that charged Chinese exporters had illegally “dumped” their panels on the US market below the price they want to charge for solar panels, lowering their cost and putting them closer to the reach of more Americans and increasing the amount of power generated from non-fossil fuels while decreasing their profits.
