New Tom Sowell Book
I got a new Tom Sowell book in the mail today, very exciting I know, so have a few quotes to enjoy.
“The people made worse off by slavery were those who were enslaved. Their descendants would have been worse off today if born in Africa instead of America. Put differently, the terrible fate of their ancestors benefited them.”
“The most basic question is not what is best, but who shall decide what is best.”
“The most fundamental fact about the ideas of the political left is that they do not work. Therefore we should not be surprised to find the left concentrated in institutions where ideas do not have to work in order to survive. ”
“Too much of what is called “education” is little more than an expensive isolation from reality.”
“Capitalism knows only one color: that color is green; all else is necessarily subservient to it, hence, race, gender and ethnicity cannot be considered within it.”
“If you are not prepared to use force to defend civilization, then be prepared to accept barbarism.”
“Freedom has cost too much blood and agony to be relinquished at the cheap price of rhetoric.”
“The first lesson of economics is scarcity: There is never enough of anything to satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics.”
And perhaps my favorite thing ever said by a human being:
“People who claim that sentencing a murderer to “life without the possibility of parole” protects society just as well as the death penalty ignore three things: (1) life without the possibility of parole does not mean life without the possibility of escape or (2) life without the possibility of killing while in prison or (3) life without the possibility of a liberal governor being elected and issuing a pardon.”
Sadly, it seems that even conservative governors are pardoning those who should be bargaining with the almighty, rather than bargaining with politicians.
