Gender Gap! OH NOES!

You might have preconceived notions of the direction a post titled “Gender Gap” might be going.

I’m about 104% sure you’re wrong.

The gender gap I’m talking about is the gender gap in college enrollment. We hear so much about how downtrodden each and every minority is, yet no one seems very concerned about the fat the there is a 14% difference in the number of males and females in higher education.

Perhaps we need some government intervention or a quota system to ensure that the two genders are equally represented. After all, many on the left argue for such programs to ensure minorities and women are represented equally. I doubt programs and initiatives such as these have contributed to such a wide gap between men and women, but if the situation were reversed I am willing to bet there would be congressional hearings.

People would shout “SEXISM!” in the streets, the sun wouldn’t rise, the ACLU would start throwing around lawsuits like chicken nuggets in a elementary school cafeteria and reparations would be ordered by the courts.

Let it be males and no one makes a peep. So what should we do? If women being under represented is akin to a biblical plague than certainly the opposite should be met with equal animosity. I say we do nothing.

Unlike a lot of people, I don’t care about race or gender. I don’t care if college enrollment ends up being 100% female or 100% male. I don’t care if it’s 100% white or black or Hispanic either. I put no stock in peoples race or gender, only in their effectiveness, their knowledge and experience.

We don’t need male college graduates, we simply need college graduates. Just like we don’t need female graduates, a black president or more wise Latina women on the Supreme Court, all we need, and should strive for, is to fill those roles with people who can do the job and do it well. I don’t think your race or gender makes you better or worse at anything, although for some people appearances are all that matter.

I mostly agree with you here. Just one little bit – does the ACLU really go after phony discimination cases? I think the ACLU usually does good work protecting freedom of speech.

Oh they do a good job. I think they are extremely quick to file suit in many cases.
