Senator Schumer and the Incredible Disappearing Branches of Government
Normally I wouldn’t pay any attention to this kind of stuff. Given that no one is perfect, some are better speakers than others, and people misspeak all the time. Typically it means nothing.
With this one I have to wonder what was going through his head, if anything.
It’s one thing to misspeak but he wasn’t even talking about the 3 branches of government. He was talking about 2 of them, the judiciary has nothing to do with whether the government shuts down. Congress could fail to pass a budget, the President could refuse to sign one, but the judiciary has nothing to do with it.
I’m trying to figure out how he got to where he did.
Again, I’m not trying to jump all over him if he just misspoke, but he seems very calm and collected, not as if he is giving a impassioned speech. Misspeaking doesn’t make him any dumber than George Bush, but if he is failing to grasp the 3 branches of government than I think that’s a big issue.
Just as I have serious concerns over Obama’s chastisement of the Supreme Court over their campaign contribution ruling, I have concerns over a sitting, presumably not senile, US Senator forgetting that the House and the Senate make up 1 branch of government not 2.
Maybe we need a test on the constitution before a person can be sworn in as an elected official.
